10 days, 30 screenings, films from all over the world: The return of

A Long Week of Short Films

At the forefront of China’s thriving independent film scene, Shanghai again plays host to A LONG WEEK OF SHORT FILMS (LWSF) from May 5-15, showcasing the very best in independent filmmaking from more than 70 countries worldwide. We’re especially proud to announce that this year over 90% of the films being screened are being given their Chinese premiere.

And besides the unique program – selected from 3,000 submissions – this year’s 10-day event will feature workshops, lectures, and master classes given by leading film figures from around the globe.

Guest participants for LWSF 2016 include director/screenwriter Ewa Pytka (Poland), documentary maker Sanju Surendran (India), director/scriptwriter Christian Slezak (Germany), and renowned animators Edison Fuentes (Ecuador), Yan Baishen (China) and Guo Chunning (China).  Liu Jiamin (China), Lili Song (China), Edgar Muenala (Ecuador), and Lars Hermann (Mexico) will also be participating.

Brought to you by Shanghai-based Kan-Kan Media/Art, this year’s event is being organised in close collaboration with a number of prestigious arts and film institutions including Shanghai Minsheng Art Museum (the main host of LWSF for the second year), and the Shanghai Film Arts Academy, among others.

Last year we welcomed more than 1,500 filmgoers from across local and expat communities. The majority of the films will be screened with Chinese subtitles provided by our dedicated team of translators. We will also be providing daily updates, previews and reviews of events on our social media platforms (website: lwsf.kankanmedia.org, WeChat: search for KanKanFilmArts)

The festival will begin with an Opening Ceremony at Minsheng Art Museum on Friday, May 6 from 7pm. The event will include a video/installation/performance from  talented artist Lars Herrmann (Mexico), besides a welcoming speech and toast from ‘A Long Week of Short Films’ organisers to all guests and invitees.
